Closing Multiplier event

The purpose of the 3rd multiplier event in Slovakia was to promote the final project results- all Intellectual Outputs, developed within the Farming 4.0 project, and engage key stakeholders and experts, discuss and provide feedback and input about the project results.

The participants were university experts in the field of agriculture and in implementation of digitaltools and smart-farming technologies (5), representatives of agricultural enterprises (7), certified agricultural advisors (3) and representative of research institution in agricultural crop production (1). After brief presentation of the host partner- Agroinstitut, all developed intellectual outputs were presented, with practical demonstration of project website and e-learning platform for ICT
knowledge and skills for VET in agriculture. Detailed presentation of the IO5: Handbook for improving ICTs knowledge and skills for VET in agriculture followed

After presentation of each Output, there was a space for discussion amongst the participants of the Multiplier events, during which they provided valuable feedback and a number of recommendations and observations on the needs in agriculture 4.0 and education in digital technologies in agriculture. All the participants agreed that today, farmers use digital technologies on a daily basis, which include smartphones, field sensors, drones, satellite data, information systems, autonomous mobile robots, etc.… However, the introduction and application of digital technologies requires new knowledge, skills and experience. The Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic officially confirmed the adoption of the Slovak Qualifications Framework (SKKR) and the National Qualifications Framework of the Slovak Republic (NQF); However, a look at the NQF Qualifications Catalogue will show that NQF offers only a few specific qualifications related to modern digital technologies in agriculture. The participants also expressed the need to have a comprehensive training system on new technologies in agriculture. A single channel where the farmer could find information about the latest technologies.

During the discussion, there were also identified several potential gaps in the field:

  • ignorance of new technological processes using Agriculture 4.0, and their implementation Information and Communication Technology for future Agriculture Erasmus+ 2018-1-TR01-KA202-058233
  •  unavailability of hardware and software for implementation and use of new technological processes using Agriculture 4.0
  • limited availability of data and knowledge – non-functional AKIS (Automated library information system), language barrier, training
  • insufficient financial incentives
  • unprepared “manuals” for the implementation of the elements of Agriculture 4.0
  • lack of knowledge in the field of “big data” or lack of an advisory system for Agriculture 4.0. (specialized for farmers)
  • ignorance of elements of project management or production management software (e.g.MS Project)
  • computer literacy reserves
  • ignorance of the issues of connectivity of individual systems and elements in Agriculture 4.0.

In conclusion, the gradual and increasing introduction and application of digital technologies in agriculture requires development of new and updated VET programmes, to better address learners´ digital skills training needs, to which this project fully contributes.
