Second Meeting

This is the second transnational meeting for the project Farming 4.0 – Agriculture 4.0. Information and Communication Technology for future Agriculture.  After the kick-off meeting that took place in Çanakkale, Turkey, hosted by the project coordinator Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart Universitesi, two outputs were realized accordingly to the project proposal.

The first output, Focused Needs Analysis required development of survey questions and analysis for different target groups in Turkey. After analyzing the questionnaire and on-field interviews an analysis was made to show the level of knowledge of ICT in Turkey for different target groups: students, professors, farmers and advisers. The main project coordinator COMU, was responsible for this output. You can access all the survey questions and the Focused Needs Analysis report HERE.

The second output, the E-collaboration platform was developed after finalization of the Focused Needs Analysis report. This platform was developed by AgFutura Technologies. By realizing the needs and knowledge of the target groups from the report the team at AgFutura managed to create a user friendly e-collaboration platform using the Open Source Learning Platform – Moodle. On this second meeting, several topics were discussed:

  1. Defining the structure and content of modules for IO3
  2. Presentation of Farming 4.0 website
  3. Presentation of the E-collaboration platform
  4. Planning the activities, tasks of O3 discussing all tasks related to the planned outcomes
  5. Basic rules, financial issues, planning the next partner meeting

Day 1

The aim of the first day: Visit of one progressive farm


Farmers’ trip

The project team at AgFutura orgnized a trip to one progressive farm in Republic of North Macedonia, called „Poledelstvo Erdzelija”. This is one of the largest farms in the country, located in the Sveti Nikole region. This farm is one of the first to use precision agriculture technology and new updated machinery and equipment for agricultural production.

The group of 5 farmers were greeted by the owner Nikola Petkovski, a well-known pilot that owns an aviation called „Boniair”, used for agricultural purposes such as spraying, fertilizing, irrigation and protection on large agricultural surfaces. The manager of the farm Miroslav Stefanovski gave a presentation of the farm and the services they offer.

After the presentation, the farmers had the opportunity to walk around the farm and see the different type of machinery the farm owns and what type of ICT it uses (GPS technology and auto steering). Farmers could also see the new milking system of “Poledelstvo Erdzelija”, how they use it and the process of milk production.

During this farm visit, farmers could also get inside the storage facility of the farm and get the insight of different types of nutritional feed that is used for different stages of cattle growth.

Day 2

The aim of the second day:

  1. Defining the structure and content of modules for IO3
  2. Presentation of Farming 4.0 website
  3. Presentation of the E-collaboration platform
  4. Planning the activities, tasks of O3 discussing all tasks related to the planned outcomes
  5. Basic rules, financial issues, planning the next partner meeting

 Discussions:

  • Presentation of the new developed Farming 4.0 website.
  • Presentation of the developed e-collaboration platform. The platform was developed on the open source learning platform named Moodle. The partners discussed the user interface and the functionality of the platform.
  • The partners also discussed the user guide that was developed for the users of the e-collaboration platform.
  • Discussion about the development of the content for the curriculum of ICT knowledge, which is the IO3 of the project.
  • Discussion regarding financial issues, timesheets and budget allocations.
  • Discussion about the date, activities and tasks of next partner meeting that will be held in Brno, Czech Republic.

Conclusions:

  • After presentation of the Farming 4.0 website, partners were very pleased with the development and will continue to use the website for project purposes. Project report, presentations, pictures and dissemination activities will be uploaded on the website regularly.
  • Partners came to the following conclusions for the e-collaboration platform:
    • The login for the users is very well defined and easy to find
    • The partner agree that only users that register on the platform can access the curriculum
    • The partners agree to divide the curriculum in different books or modules for easier transfer of knowledge
    • The partners agree to have one sections dedicated only for the partners under the name “Mentors”. This section will be visible only for the partners and will contain a database with all important documents, imagery and a forum for easier partner communication.
    • The partners agree that the interface is easy to navigate and plan to use the developed user guide for the platform.
  • Partners made a draft version of the content for the curriculum of ICT knowledge that will be used on the platform
  • Timesheets of all partners are complied, and there are no financial issues.
